The recent constitutional amendment in telecommunications states that broadcasting (free over the air radio and TV) is a general interest public service, and that the Instituto Federal de Telecomunicaciones (IFT or Federal Telecommunications Institute) is in charge of granting concessions over radio electric spectrum, which, in the case of commercial use, will be granted by public auctioning.
In this regard, the Constitution requires IFT to publish the Call for Bidding to auction new concessions of frequencies for television services that should be gathered to conform at least two new television networks with national coverage.
