IFT and Conapred promote action to prevent and eliminate discrimination in the provision of telecommunications services
- Both entities signed a collaboration agreement to promote actions that prevent users and audiences to be treated unequally
- They exchange information on complaints arising from alleged acts of discrimination on the part of and concessionaires and / or authorized to its customers
The presidents of the Federal Telecommunications Institute (Instituto Federal de Telecomunicaciones, IFT) and the National Council to Prevent Discrimination (Consejo Nacional para Prevenir la Discriminación, CONAPRED), Gabriel Contreras and Ricardo Bucio Mujica, respectively, signed a collaboration agreement with the aim of developing, promoting and disseminating actions aimed at preventing and eliminate all forms of discrimination against users and audiences in the provision of the services offered by concessionaires and/or authorized.
The agreement states that both agencies will develop the following activities:
- They will exchange technical support to assist in the development and promotion of actions that allow the users and audiences in situations of discrimination to have access to telecommunications and broadcasting services on an equal basis with other users and audiences
- They collaborate in the promotion and dissemination, within their respective competencies, in order to generate editorials, audiovisual and printed products to promote equal treatment and non-discrimination for the benefit of users and audiences
- They participate in training programs for public servants and members of both organizations to promote a culture of equality and non-discrimination in their daily work
- Establish mechanisms for communication, coordination and inter-agency collaboration to exchange complaints submitted on alleged acts of discrimination committed by concessionaires and/or authorized in providing telecommunications and broadcasting services, so that both the IFT and Conapred act in accordance with their respective powers.
Both bodies may sign specific agreements with the consequent work programs to be determined, in accordance with the nature of each of the issues subject to collaboration.
