IFT Plenary determines that on July, Tuesday 14th of 2015 the analog broadcast TV signals in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua and Tecate, Baja California will be concluded
- From 00:00 am on July, Tuesday 14th of 2015, 12 television stations in both cities, including complementary ones, will transmit only in digital signal
- With the Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT), the inhabitants of both towns will have a greater choice of channels, better picture and sound quality, among other benefits
The Plenary of the Federal Telecommunications Institute (Instituto Federal de Telecomunicaciones, IFT), decided that next July, Tuesday 14th of 2015 at 00:00 hours (local time) the transmission of analog broadcast TV signals in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua and Tecate, Baja California, will conclude definitively.
In an ordinary session held today, the Plenary determined that the conditions laid down in the existing legal framework to approve the removal of 12 analog broadcasting signals at both locations were met:
a) The Ministry of Communications and Transport (Secretaría de Comunicaciones y Transportes, SCT) reported that was reached a penetration level of receivers or decoders for the reception of digital broadcasts in 90% or more of low-income households defined by SEDESOL in each coverage area, according to the following table:

b) The Institute confirmed that currently broadcast digital television broadcasts under the authorized parameters are performed through a series of inspection visits to stations in the coverage area.
In accordance with the provisions of the Policy of Transition to Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT), Article 16, the Institute will share information and dissemination in terms of the provisions at national and local level. Furthermore, Article 15 provides that television Concessionaires and Permit holders are required to provide daily information to the public about the process of transition to DTT.
In that vein, the Institute will conduct a mass media campaign at a national level, so that people take appropriate measures to conclude analog television broadcast transmissions and a local campaign, which will report the date and time. In addition, the IFT has the www.tdt.mx portal and call center with the number 01-800 880 2424.
Digital Terrestrial Television offers benefits to the audience, such as: better image quality and higher fidelity sound, more channels (some in HD), among other services.
