IFT Commissioners meet with the President of the competition authority of Canada (Press Release 37/2015)

IFT Commissioners meet with the President of the competition authority of Canada

Today, Commissioners of the Federal Telecommunications Institute (Instituto Federal de Telecomunicaciones, IFT) held a meeting with John Pecman, President of the Competition Bureau-Bureau de la Concurrence (CBBC) of Canada, in which points of view about the activities of both institutions as antitrust authorities in their respective countries were exchanged.

In Canada, the CB-BC is the competition entity in all sectors of the economy, while in Mexico, IFT exercised these powers solely in the fields of telecommunications and broadcasting.

During the meeting, both sides expressed their intention to establish an agreement collaboration with respect to their common functions.

On this visit to the facilities of IFT, Commissioner Pecman, accompanied by the Head of International Affairs at the Canadian institution, Dan Wilcock, issued to IFT officials the lecture "The Canadian Competition Bureau," about the work of the CB-BC to ensure both Canadian businesses and consumers prosper in a competitive and innovative market.

The IFT welcomes Commissioner Pecman for the opportunity to hold this productive meeting to strengthen ties and work together in benefit of an increased competition in the markets of telecommunications and broadcasting.
