Survey on availability and use of technology information (MODUTIH) 2013
The Household Survey on Availability and Use of Technologies Data showed that in April 2013, 49.4 million of people are computer users and there are 46.0 million Internet users in the country.
The National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Geografía, INEGI) reported that users Internet recorded an increase of 12.5% over 2012. Of all Internet users, the population group aged between 12 to 34 years, the most used service is Internet, with a share of 62.6 percent.
In Mexico there are 11.1 million households equipped with computer, accounting 35.8% of all households in the country and represents an increase of 13.3% compared to 2012.
The survey also showed that entities such as the Federal District, Baja California and in Baja California Sur there are five out of ten households with a computer, while Chiapas and Oaxaca there are less than two in ten households that have access to this equipment.
INEGI reported that in terms of connectivity, 9.5 million households have Internet, representing 30.7% of the total in Mexico, which means growth of 20.6% over 2012.
The survey can capture the main points of access; thus, among the set computer users, the most frequently reported in 2013 were: home (58.9%), public (33.0%) and at work (22.7%) site.
When considering the composition of computer users by gender, men have a share of 49.9% and 50.1% for women; with regard to the Internet users, women represent 50.0% and men 50.0 percent. Considering the three main uses of the Internet that captures the survey, predominated the ones used to get general information (64.3%), followed by the group that used it for communication activities such as messaging or receive e-mail (42.1%) for entertainment (36.2%), and which used to support school activities (35.1%).
The survey measures the availability of digital televisions in homes and reportedly 25.8% of all households have one, representing an increased 23.4% over last year. Of all households, 69.0% said to have only analog TV type.

HOUSEHOLD SURVEY ON AVAILABILITY AND USE OF
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY, 2013
The National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Geografía, INEGI) has disseminated the results of the Household Survey on Availability and Use of Information Technology 2013, raised during the month of April this year. The information technology and communications (ICT) have shown contributing efficiently to improve communication possibilities between individuals and families, and develop new skills and ways of knowledge, which is necessary to know the use that individuals make these technologies: how and why they use, how often they do and impact on everyday life.
The dissemination of the results of the module on Availability and Use of Information Technologies in Households, (Módulo sobre Disponibilidad y Uso de las Tecnologías de la Información en los Hogares, MODUTIH) presents 2013 information by state on the subject concerned. This effort increase the availability of information to the national level was made possible by support and collaboration of the Coordination of Information Society and Knowledge of the Secretariat of Communications and Transportation.
I. HOMES
The survey estimated a total 11.1 million homes equipped with computer, corresponding to 35.8% of all households. This figure expresses an increase of 13.3% from the survey in the previous year.
As for connectivity, 9.5 million households were connected to the Internet, representing about one third of the national total (30.7%); showing an increase of 20.6% over 2012.
State results reflect significant differences in the availability of ICT goods. As for the availability of computer and Mexico City the states of Baja California Sur and Baja California have ratios five out
of every 10 households with equipment; while the states of Chiapas and Oaxaca have lower proportions two of 10.
Internet access in homes is also heavily differentiated. While mostly the northern borderstates countries, including the Federal District and Quintana Roo, averaged 44 percent; Chiapas, Oaxaca, Guerrero, Tlaxcala, Hidalgo and Michoacán averaged 15.7 percent.
The survey also provides an estimate of the availability of digital and analog televisions in homes, based on prototype images these teams to identify their availability in the home. The uprising 2013 estimated that 25.8% of all households have a digital type receiver. This represents an increase of 23.4% over the last year; also that 69.0% of households declared to have only TV analog type.
While 25.8% of homes have digital TV type, more than a half of the 32 states (17 of 32) are below that average. The four states with the highest averages are Federal District, Nuevo León, Baja California and Aguascalientes, registering percentages between 33.7% and 42.9 percent.
2. USERS
The survey estimated a total of 46.0 million Internet users, showing an increase of 12.5% over the previous year.
As in the case of the computer, the majority of those using Internet was focused on young people aged 12 to 34 years, with a share of 62.6 percent. Moreover, the module also reports of 49,400,000 people who use a computer.
The survey can capture the main points of access; well, among the set computer users, the most frequently reported in 2013 were: home (58.9%), public site (33.0%) and at work (22.7%).
3. APPLICATIONS
Data from 2013 show that among the group of computer users, 92% also has Internet access. When considering the composition of ICT users by gender, the results of the survey showed a close participation among women (50.1%) and men (49.9%) in the use of computer, whereas in the gender composition among Mexican netizens, 50.0% were women and 50.0% to men.
The report of the three main places where Internet was used, highlights those associated with the home (55.9%), while 44.1% of the users declared outside the home.
Considering the three main uses of the Internet that captures the survey, predominated that used for general information (64.3%), followed by those who used to engage in communication as messaging or sending or receiving emails (42.1%), for entertainment (36.2%), and used to support the school activities (35.1%).
Only 5.7% of Internet users (a total of 2,649,053 persons) stated have completed at least one transaction (purchase or payment by this means) the twelve months preceding the interview. Of this total, less than half (1.19457 million people) reported having made online both types of transaction, both purchase and payment for a service.
4. USER NOTE
The Household Survey on Availability and Use of Technology Access information notices the users of these technologies as well as they number, the use given to these, in order to meet its penetration in the population and thus have a reference point for the definition of policies public in the field for the benefit of development.
Note that regarding the use of information technologies and communication technologies (ICT) by individuals, the international recommendations raise the convenience of collecting detail each applications; however, MODUTIH only captures the three main uses of the PC and the Internet. These are identified by the universal household respondent who also provide all the answers to the questionnaire by each resident household respondent.
The absolute figures are reconciled as 2013 projections CONAPO demographic April 2013. In due course be submitted appropriate adjustments to previous years.
